Tintype from a series of local artists and performers
When I work with local people and friends I often make a quick tintype series as well so that I can give them something special to keep and can give it to them immediately. These are recent examples. When I started photographic work; I used Polaroid type 55 neg/pos film which gave me an immediate print and a superb negative to work from – I miss type 55 film .
I first used the Polaroid 55 film in movie film studios at Pinewood and Borehamwood in the 1960s – it was used for continuity. My life and work in the film industry was magical, the 1960s were “special”, but by 1971 we all woke-up to find that it had disappeared. MGM studio closed and the rest were mostly in Television productions.
I worked on over 200 films, first as an extra, but I got my Equity card as a stunt performer, mostly by falling off fast motorbikes, I then worked as a riggers assistant and then started on some second unit assistant direction (the lowest of the low). At one point I had four union cards and was the only person on the set who could be filmed climbing up a ladder, screwing in a live lightbulb and then fall off the ladder.
I do not do a lot of street photography, I prefer to engage with people and then do a close up direct – this traffic warden is typical.
