When we moved to France in 1991, we lived near Lyon for a few years before buying and old 10th century ruin of a house in the Languedocian village pf Nizas.
Many French villages still have long avenues of trees on the roads. These were planted to give shade from the sun for travellers and workers on the roads to the villages.
I have been making a series of these avenues before they are lost to road widening, diseases crash barriers and lots of white lines along the roads.
