CV Relating to photography
1961 to 1963 – Ealing school of Art and Design, studied sculpture and photography
I started a course for further education in mathematics supported by a “Sandwich Course” from a computer Research company. But in the early 1960s Government support for computer sciences was withdrawn and I changed my studies to the Arts and Design course.
1963 to 1968 – Freelance work at London based film studios (MGM, ABPC, Pinewood, Marylebone etc) as second unit third assistant (the lowest of the low) but I also worked to earn a full Equity actors guild card and worked as Stunt Operator on series such as The Saint, The Baron and Gideon’s way (usually crashing motorbikes on camera) – I was often working with Polaroids for continuity scheduling.
By the late 1960s the British movie industry was in decline due to the tax concessions being cancelled, film Studios started closing, I decided to work fully in still photography. It seemed the British government did not like my chosen career paths.
1968 to 1973 – College studies for C&G 744 diploma for photography – including a course at London School of Printing for film making – I was also doing some supportive movie film work to pay my way.
1973 to 1993 – Working as freelance commercial photographer In London, Cambridge and Edinburgh. I taught commercial photography and technical work for the Central Texas College at USAF bases for American personnel – The CTT certified me authorised to give post-graduate services and award merits (perhaps I am a professor?).
1993 to 2013– Moved to the South of France, as a French resident, and opened a residential Photo workshop and school in our own premises. I worked as a local photographer for weddings and school photographs. I was not impressed by digital technology, I had been influenced by studio work in London where we used early digital backs for large format photography. Also the decline in skillsets and quality control was evolving into a computer dictated ethic.
As materials and equipment disappeared from the market or became prohibitably expensive, I returned to my studies of the early techniques. I had already worked with Platinum printing and Cyanotypes, but studied Calotype and Wet Plate work
2013 to 2023 Started photographic workshops specialising in Alternative Photographic techniques, including Wet Plate, Calotype, Carbon Transfer, Carbro, Orotone. I am currently working on techniques which extend the sensory range of photography, with optical developments (for perspective interpertation) and multi lens colour work using different colour palettes (RGB shift to the Appeles or Zorn palette).

A lot of my work was licensed through the Tony Stone Agency in London, but this was sold to Getty Images in 1999 and I was not notified and have not given permission for the use of all my work still held by them by Getty – they hold a lot of my original and unique work and do not respond to my request to return my property.
