Homage to Berenice Abbott

13 June 2024

Berenice Abbott is a name I have only just discovered but whose work I have admired for a long time.

I was inspired by a project to look at her “super sight” work and it fits very well into my aim to work with anamorphic imagary and to use this to develop ways to make photographs readable for blind people.

From the information I got online, I have built some apparatus to produce enlarged negatives directly from subjects withut using an enlarger – in essence is is a development of an epidiascope and process camera.

Using the Strobe Equipment lighting I have, it is possible to generate over 50k Joules of super quality light for this project – I have a lot of old process lenses, some stop down to f240. With stacked exposures, I should get some excellent depth of field.
